The mountains of Abruzzo are beautiful at any time of year, and Le Gallele has breathtaking views of both the
Maiella and Gran Sasso mountain ranges. There are many places where you can do winter sports such as downhill skiing, cross-country skiing or snowboarding.
The ski resort of Passo Lanciano is in the Maiella region. Here you can ski with a view of the Adriatic Sea and it is just a short drive away from Le Galelle.
The resort has pistes from 1300 to 1650 metres, which snake through wonderful beechwoods. The higher Majelletta resort(1650 to 2000 m),
has a snow park and large snowfields for carving, cross-country skiing and ski mountaineering.
The international ski resort of Roccaraso is about an hour away by car and there are also ski resorts at Campo Imperatore,
Campo Felice, Rivisondoli and Ovindoli. There is also an observatory at the Campo Imperatore ski resort, which can be reached by cable car from Fonte Cerreto.
Of course, the ski slopes of Abruzzo are far quieter than the busy, overcrowded slopes of the Alps, so they offer a safer place for your children (or you!) to learn to ski.
Each resort has a ski school with well-trained and friendly ski instructors.
