All around Le Galelle there are opportunities for sports and activites, including walking, rambling, trekking, mountain biking, cycling,
golf, canoeing, climbing, horse riding and many others.
Walking and Rambling
Whether you want to ramble in a relaxed fashion
around the hills covered in olive trees, or do a strenuous trek up steep mountain paths, you will find something suitable for your requirements.
There are endless walking trails to the south in the Maiella mountains and to the
north in the Gran Sasso mountains. The routes are well-marked but never very busy, and they will take you through some amazing
landscapes where you will be able to spot rare wild flowers, birds and animals.
It is even possible to walk to the very top of the Corno Grande, the highest peak in the Apennine range at 2,912 metres.
New for 2010 on our tours itinerary is a combined visit to the Wolf Centre and a park ramble.
It is possible to do excursions of several days with local guides and stay in the mountain shelters.
Mountain Biking
There are many mountain bike routes throughout Abruzzo of varying degrees of difficulty.
The routes through the Tirino Valley are particular favourites of our guests.
Cycling
Pescara has played host to the Giro d'Italia several times and nearby Spoltore is the birthplace of champion Danilo di Luca.
The Matteotti Trophy also takes place there.
You are sure to encounter fellow cyclists along the routes due to the huge popularity of cycling in Abruzzo.
If you are up for it and good enough, try Scafa to Blockhaus where today's champions train, and legends like Eddy Merckx made their debut.
This itinerary starts at Scafa station and reaches Blockhaus, the highest mountain area of the Maiella at an altitude of over 2000 metres.
Pack yourself full of carbs for that one!
Canoeing
Our local centre operates from June until late September and uses Canadian kayaks suitable for a guide, 2 adults and one child.
Golf
The 18 hole par 72 Miglianico course covers 6100 metres. It is 35 minutes away and was used for the Mediterranean games in 2009.
Green fees start from 40 euros and club hire from 10 euros.
The club is open 360 days of the year and has qualified instructors, so don't practice your faults, take a lesson! There is also a bunkered driving range.
Find out more about the golf course on their website
www.miglianicogolf.it.
There is a second golf course at San Donato about an hour away.
Climbing
There are numerous climbing centres in Abruzzo. The nearest is Roccamorice. You can find more details on this website: www.falesia.it.
